What Is Air Cargo?

Air cargo or air logistics is the mode which transports goods by aircraft, from manufacturer or supplier, through the ground services onto the aircraft, the flight itself, and the subsequent unloading and delivery at the destination. It is made up of different parts which are linked together to provide an integrated transport chain.

Because of the higher cost of air transport over sea or land, the ideal goods for this mode are time-sensitive and high-value items such as pharmaceutical products and vaccines, telecom equipment and computers, vital spare parts for ships and machinery, flowers and seafood and certain fruits, art exhibitions. Urgent disaster relief and heavy machinery are also time sensitive. Indeed in today’s “just in time business environment”, everything shipped is time sensitive.
