General Sales & Service Agent (GSSA)

Some airlines prefer to appoint an independent Cargo Sales agent which allows them to concentrate on passenger business. Or in some cases the amount of (cargo) flights to a certain destination does not justify having their own sales staff. Or in less known regions the GSSA already has a commercial footprint. Sometimes an airline may have no direct flights to a country or region but can still sell cargo capacity for their main routes, this is called off-line.

The GSSA may represent several different non competing airlines in different countries. They also offer more services than just sales. Basically, they can unburden the airline by acting as a de facto cargo department, which entails little or no investment by the airline. Digital marketplaces, where demand and supply meet, are increasing.

Some GSSAs are small-sized operations, whilst others are multinational. More and more airlines are handing over their cargo management to GSSAs. It is an entrepreneurial and rewarding career offering variations and great potential rewards.

You could work in different areas such as:

  • Sales & marketing: liaise with airlines and forwarders to increase sales and find new customers in different international markets.
  • Plan & coordinate the bookings in the most efficient way.
  • Define the strategy, pricing and revenue optimization together with the airlines.
  • Digital interaction with the stake holders.
  • New product development to complement the sales.
